When people describe my personality, I am often described as intentional, bold, and to the point. I have to make an effort to be softer in my approach with people. In my current phase of life, I am grateful that God has gifted me with boldness. In my career, I must be bold to stand against the challenges I face. As a parent, I have to be bold as I stand against a demanding child. More importantly, I am thankful for God’s blessing of boldness against the Devil.
While reading my Bible today, a particular verse struck me in a way that it never has before. James 4:7-8 (MSG) says, “So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time.” We are commanded to be bold against the Devil’s attempts to lure us in. I always envision a little lap dog, loud and obnoxiously barking, but when you yell out to be quiet, they timidly slink away.
Whether you are someone who is more reserved and lighter in your actions, we are commanded to be bold, stand firm, and yell at the Devil. When we do, he will scamper away. Boldness is what we are commanded to do. Yes, consistent boldness is exhausting, but we are given renewed strength and safety in God. Lord, help us boldly stand against the Devil’s temptations. Protect us and comfort us when we fall weary and hold us as we regain our strength to press on in this race.
